The White Angels
Episode Three — The White Angels takes viewers into Ukraine’s northern border region, where civilians trapped inside the widening Grey Zone face a daily struggle to stay alive. Here, the elderly and infirm remain in villages stalked by drones, shattered by artillery, and inches from Russia’s advancing forces — a place where the simple act of leaving home becomes a life-or-death decision.
The episode follows the White Angels, a specialized Ukrainian police evacuation unit, as they navigate cratered roads, drone-threatened intersections, and collapsing towns to reach those who can no longer escape on their own. Through high-risk evacuations, tense standoffs at front doors, and intimate moments with residents reluctant to flee, the film reveals the emotional and operational difficulty of extracting civilians from modern drone-dominated warfare.
The White Angels exposes the human cost of a front that moves slowly, destructively, and without mercy — and highlights the courage of the officers who return to the Grey Zone each day, not to fight, but to save the forgotten.
